Google Wave
What was Google Wave?
It was a discussion or conversation tool used in many settings, including work and school. It allowed users to share video, website, and other elements while also commenting on them. Polls and other Google gadgets could be added to create a more robust conversation.
When
I utilized this tool in the Fall semester of 2010 to facilitate an online discussion between multiple courses at 3 different universities, including one in Mexico. Google terminated support for Google Wave during that Fall semester and officially fully retired the tool in 2011.
Pros
Google Wave looked amazing. It's the first tool that showed a bubble format for discussion, making it appear more like an actual conversation, similar to the iPhone text messages. It was very open ended with the number of gadgets that could be used. It also allowed you to copy the same people into a new conversation quite easily. Conversations could be filed away, just like emails. Conversation histories could be rolled back, even if content was deleted.
Cons
Since it is more of an email setting, online discussions or conversations were hard in large groups unless everyone ensures their name is listed. Managing who's involved in the conversation could be frustrating because of the name issues as well. It has been discontinued.
